About Dr. Perillo
Dr. Anthony Perillo is a forensic psychologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, also serving as Assistant Director of Clinical Training for IUP's Psy.D. Program. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the City University of New York Graduate Center and a pre-doctoral residency (internship) at Brockville Mental Health Centre (The Royal) in Ottawa. He then worked in the private sector as a contract forensic psychologist and program evaluation specialist before joining the faculty at IUP.
Dr. Perillo’s research examines clinical practices in forensic contexts (those where clinical psychology intersects with the legal system) and sexual violence prevention efforts. He was awarded First Place by the American Psychology-Law Society for his dissertation work on risk assessment of sexually abusive clergy, and his current work on forensic decision-making is funded by the National Science Foundation.
Outside of teaching and research, Dr. Perillo is a licensed psychologist specializing in forensic assessment. He has provided assessment and treatment services across a number of local, federal, and international settings, including forensic hospitals, the Bureau of Prisons, mental health courts, family court, and private practice. He has also worked with the NYPD as a consultant training recruits to communicate with persons in severe mental or emotional distress. As consulting staff for ChildFirst Pennsylvania, Dr. Perillo also trains forensic evaluators in proper interview techniques when talking with children reported to be possible victims of abuse or neglect.
